The first time I tried Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings was a few years ago when my lovely and talented step-daughter made them for the whole family.(Have I mentioned how much I like it when the kids cook for me? No? Let me say it again. Maybe my children will see it. I ♥ WHEN THE KIDS COOK!)
And now there's no turning back. WOW. Hands down this easy dessert recipe is in my Top 10 Favorite Desserts. Unbelievably delicious and only takes a few minutes to make. Gooey and warm like apple pie on the inside with a sugary-cinnamon flaky dumpling crust....*wipes drool off of the computer screen*
p.s. these are also excellent for weekend breakfast.
Apple Dumplings...another excuse for us Southerners to consume Mountain Dew. 🙂
This is one of those wow-easy dessert recipesyou wish you'd been making for years. And if you have been making apple dumplings like this for years and haven't told anyone, then shame on you!
This easy apple dessert recipe is best with Granny Smith apples. Their tart flavor is perfect with all the sweet sugar and soda, plus they don't get too mushy when baked.
Ingredients Needed to Make Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings:
- Granny Smith apples
- Crescent roll dough
- Salted Butter
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Mountain Dew soda
What I like the most about this recipe is that it uses simple ingredients that you probably have on hand. Not a lot of measuring, either.
TIP: You can peel the apples or leave them unpeeled, to your preference. (We like the peel on, gives the apple dumplings more color and texture.)
How to Make Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings:
- First, spray a baking dish with non-stick spray. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Wash and dry apples. Peel them if you would like, or leave them unpeeled.
- Evenly cut apples into bite-sized pieces. Carefully unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into triangles. Place a small handful of apple pieces (about 2 tablespoons per triangle) in the center of each crescent.
- Roll the dough up and place the apple filled dough (seal side down) into the bottom of the baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter, cinnamon, vanilla and both sugars. Spoon the sugar mixture over the top of the dumplings evenly.
- Pour the Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan and in between each dumpling.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until the top of the dumplings are golden brown.
- Serve warm!
Slice your apples into wedges or chop them into pieces. The apple dumplings are easier to roll in the crescent dough if they are in slices. But they are way easier to eat if cut into pieces. Equally delicious either way.

Place them in a greased baking dish then top with a mixture of butter, cinnamon, vanilla and two sugars. (One sugar wasn't enough.) (See the recipe at the bottom of the post for the details.)
Now, let's put a little NASCAR on these cinnamon-y apple dumplings. Pour Mountain Dew (or your favorite sweet citrus soda will do. Maybe.) All around the edges and in between the dumplings.
Don't dump the soda right on top, or it will wash away the sugar topping, and we don't want that.
How much Mountain Dew you use is up to you. If you want a lot of syrup to drizzle on top, use the whole bottle. If you prefer your apple dumplings a toasted on top and flakier, use about half the bottle.
For this recipe we used about 12 ounces.
Now time to bake! Your entire home will smell amazing...like a bakery.
I woke up in the middle of the night once thinking of all the dumpling combinations you could make. Peaches with Sprite. Cherries with co*ke. Caramel with Cream Soda.....
What? You don't dream about these things?
Serve warm with syrup from the bottom of the pan, or top your Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings with a serving of creamy vanilla ice cream. (I like mine solo.)

Perfection. I cook for some of my co-workers at least once a week (cooking is my stress-reliever from my 60+ hours of work a week), and sometimes make a full meal, sometimes just a sweet treat. This dish is a definite favorite and they are begging for it every week! I did add raisins to some of the dumplings, and quartered my dumplings (using one can of crescent rolls for each apple - I make 20 each time. I also add a small cube of butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg to the top of each apple quarter before wrapping. I used to make dumplings with my own pastry dough, but the crescent rolls are just as good, and sooo easy! Thanks for sharing!

I think yours are better than mine. I love raisins, and you can never go wrong with more butter in my opinion. I bet your homemade dough was amazing...I'm thinking about trying a batch with a dab of cream cheese and some cranberries.
